Home Learning

We believe that children's learning should extend beyond the classroom. Children are expected to complete weekly home learning, including spellings, times tables and regular reading. 

Home Learning Expectations

Nursery

Reading book to be changed at least once a week. 

Each child to have a Reading Record where the adult in class initials and comments in it once a week. Parent to comment once a week. 

Reception

Reading book to be changed at least once a week. 

Reading Focus book to be sent home once a week on Reading Focus Group day. 

Each child to have a Reading Record where an adult in class initials and comments in it once a week. Parent to comment once a week. 

Learning Quest/Maths Home Learning set fortnightly and recorded in Home Learning book. 

Teacher to give feedback on all Home Learning in accordance with the Feedback Guidance. 

Years 1 & 2

Reading book to be changed at least once a week. 

Reading Focus book to be sent home once a week on Reading Focus Group day. 

Weekly spelling lists to be stuck in Home Learning book and tested (Year 2). 

Each child to have a Reading Record where an adult in class records the title of the Reading Focus book. Parent to comment in it once a week. Class teacher to respond to this when appropriate. 

Maths task set weekly. 

Home Learning to be given out every Thursday. This is due in the following Tuesday. 

Teacher to give feedback on all Home Learning in accordance with the Feedback Guidance. 

Years 3 & 4

Children to have the opportunity to change their reading book at least once a week. 

Reading Focus book changed on completion. 

Weekly spelling lists to be stuck in spelling book and tested. 

Maths task set weekly. 

English/Learning Quest Home Learning set alternate weeks and recorded in Home Learning book. 

Home Learning to be given out every Thursday. This is due in the following Tuesday. 

Teacher to give feedback on all Home Learning in accordance with the Feedback Guidance. 

Years 5 & 6

Children to have the opportunity to change their reading book at least once a week. 

Reading Focus book changed on completion. 

Each child to have a Reading Comprehension Book. 

Weekly spelling lists to be stuck in spelling book and tested.

Maths Home Learning set weekly from Maths Study Book/Worksheet.

Maths Home Learning to be given out every Thursday. This is due in the following Tuesday.

Learning Quest Home Learning set regularly as appropriate. 

Teacher to give feedback on all Home Learning in accordance with the Feedback Guidance.
